What is Ethylene Tetrafluoroethylene / ETFE?

Ethylene Tetrafluoroethylene, also referred to as ETFE, is a form of fluoropolymer insulation. ETFE is a very versatile form of insulation. Its ability to withstand high temperatures and harsh environments make ETFE a good choice for the aerospace, medical, nuclear and instrumentation industries. ETFE can be used for any application that requires chemical resistance, high temperatures, radiation resistance and good electrical properties. Tefzel™ is a brand of ETFE made by DuPont™/Chemours™.

ETFE is often chosen over FEP or PTFE due to its superior mechanical strength. It has excellent heat-age properties and can withstand high-voltages. ETFE is available in several standard Mil-W-22759 (Mil-Spec hook-up wire) constructions and in several different Mil-C-27500 (Mil-Spec multi-conductor cable) constructions.
